State and federal permitting processes often require economic impact models. Once developed, these models can also be used for scenario planning and comparison. In this way, data and models are used to inform resource management decisions.
A notable example is the Shiprock Solar Project, a 372-megawatt solar facility planned for development in New Mexico by Photosol US. Triple Point used IMPLAN software to quantify the economic impacts of developing the facility which would become an alternate source of electricity for northwest New Mexico in addition to the coal-fired San Juan Generating Station which may be retired as soon as 2022.
