Gunnison Valley Health and the Gunnison Consortium (GRASP) retained John Powell, Cole Cooper and Jeff Moffett to research and write the Aftercare Needs Assessment for Gunnison County in 2023. This report addresses insufficient aftercare services for individuals in Gunnison County who are dealing with substance abuse and addiction. This report identifies gaps in aftercare services and unmet needs. Recommendations are proposed in the hopes of expanding, connecting, and bolstering aftercare resources in Gunnison County. The research was funded by a grant from the El Pomar Foundation.
This study identified the need for a sober living home in Gunnison County. A successful outcome of this research was the opening of Gunnison’s first sober living home in January 2024, less than a year after the study was completed.
